Exceptional Rare Art Deco Jazz Age Rolex Marconi Enamel Clock is so rare ,  it may well be the only known example to exist  ~  Literally!   Museum grade & Important Rolex Marconi Jazz Age Table Clock of the highest quality made !!  POA

Description

This Exceptional Rare Art Deco Jazz Age Rolex Marconi Enamel Clock is off the Richter scale of rarities  ~  Apart from being stunningly beautiful & so skilfully made!

After more than 30 yr’s of dealing in antiques ,  decorative Art’s ,  Antique Jewellery  &  Vintage Watches  ~  This Piece is , without doubt ,  among the  ‘best 3 pieces’ that I have handled ,  ever!
Totally regardless of value’s  &  solely on degree’s of skill ,  complexity ,  uniqueness ,  rarity and of course condition & aesthetics and outright beauty!

After 3.5 decades I have handled more than the odd ‘special piece’ over the years.  This Rolex Marconi enamel table clock is certainly a standout in a horological sense in my time in this industry!
This extremely rare ,  possibly unique ,  piece is an absolute magnet.

I would defy anyone to be in a room where this was visible & not be drawn to it & want to inspect it close up   ~   it has ‘its own presence’  almost!

This truly exceptional piece screams Art Deco Jazz Age  & is an extremely rare & an important piece of early Rolex , horological & decorative art’s history!!
I say that without any hesitation.
It is a bespoke museum piece & is genuinely being sold well below it’s true value & what one would pay in any gallery in any major city of the world Or via leading UK auction rooms ,  where it may make it’s way too in due course.

I got carried away taking the photo’s {so easy yo do } ,  with a final tally of 20 or 21 accurate images uploaded for you to enjoy this bespoke museum grade piece with.

Standing an impressive  5 & an 1/8th inches tall {approx 130 mm’s}  x  3.5 inches width {approx;  90 mm’s}  ~  this is not a tiny piece by any means.  Sterling Silver and an absolute No Brainer as an investment piece   ~  this is the sort of piece that will for ever be extremely desirable & constantly in vogue!    It simply tick’s so many boxes!!

The difference between this Rolex Marconi & the very best examples of non jewelled table clocks in the world, including Cartier, Boucheron etc is None ~ Zero ,  Zilch & Zip!

A form of Champleve` enamel ,  the degree of skill , time and ‘expense’ to create such an exceptional stand to house the Rolex Marconi would have made this clock ,  I believe , totally non viable as a commercial piece to put into production of any sort!!!

Therefore ,  that narrows it down as to how / why this stunning clock was indeed created in the first place!?
Was it a mistake ,  an error of judgement , as to just how expensive this would cost to produce?   I doubt it.   We are not talking about amateurs at this stage.
The only conclusion/s ~assumptions that I can make is that this was a custom order ,  perhaps by someone within the  RWC company ,  perhaps an extremely wealthy individual who placed an order with the design provided by him/her Or with the design by Rolex Marconi   ~  at this point in time we will not be ale to answer the question with any certainty.

One thing that is an absolute given  ~  is that of it’s genre ,  this table clock with strong Art Deco Jazz Age designed enamel plaque front with st.silver frame & stand by Rolex Marconi is an ultra rarity and of ‘the highest museum quality made’ of the period !

An absolutely stunning scene ~   of superb quality  ~  featuring multi coloured enamel work design of geometrical almost 3D appearance!

Amazing variety of colours ,  the most iv’e seen on any piece of enameled decorative arts of this period ,  showing beautiful Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple and Blue & Black colours to this amazing avant garde design!!

Almost a kaleidoscope of colours & patterns & shapes ,  with dancers to the left side base section being Pan figures with  ‘African natives’ embroiled in a passionate & animated dance routine to the right.

Remaining an outstanding original condition ,  with zero negatives  ~  this piece is literally unsurpassed at the time of making & in it’s genre of horology & decorative art’s and can only be regarded as such.   Show me one better!

Original enamel dial , with No hairline cracks nor chips!   Original “Mercedes hands” & original everything.   Running well & keeping good vintage time.  Hand tip will take 3 seconds to straighten.

A very brief & basic history of Rolex Marconi & the standing of their “better pieces”.

MARCONI
1911

“Hans Wilsdorf ‘s vision to create an “equal brand to Rolex to capture a larger % of the same market” ,  was given life when he registered the Marconi name in January 1911 ~  even before he officially patented the Rolex name on the 15 November 1915.

That move was a gem of Rolex marketing brilliance.
In 1901 Gugliemo Marconi successfully demonstrated the first use of radio waves as a means of communication. In 1909, Marconi was awarded the Nobel prize for physics and his business had become a great commercial success.

Radio communication was ” state of art technology” and this was very exciting to the general public. Hans Wilsdorf believed that by registering the name MARCONI for Rolex watches he would immediately associate his ground breaking watch technology and engineering with the ground braking innovation and progress of of MARCONI’ radio Waves. The Rolex Marconi was thus born and production took off in the 1920’s.

Only the very best movements that Rolex could muster were utilized for the Marconi line. Rolex did not place the Marconi name on standard Rolex models but actually on the most expensive lines; lines that were limited production models for customers whom price mattered little and quite literally wanted the best of the best.

Quite often yet not always ,  having “Rolex Marconi” dials ,   “Marconi” dials ,  watch case backs with RWC ,  Marconi marker movements and even Rolex marked movements.
Apart from the underlying link being quality and often unusual models ,  their was no other “stead fast rule”  as is often the case with many aspects of Rolex!

Rolex was Marconi  ~  Marconi was owned by Rolex  ~  Rolex Never put their name on a dial of a watch or clock that they did not want their ‘treasured brand name’ associated with ,  “on the first basis”  ~  With several models having just that ,  dual names on the original dials & several other facts ,   those that challenge the fact that Rolex Marconi was created as an “equal standing brand name”  to basically ride the coat tails of success of the amazing Marconi & his new Radio’s.

{I’ve often wondered just how Mr.Marconi felt about these upstarts, Rolex ,   using his name!!?}

The expense necessary to acquire a MARCONI reflected the enormous amount of work and detail that went into each one. The majority of these Marconi watches were sold through a very small group of Fine London Jewelers whose customers could afford the high prices. In addition, Rolex made signature Marconi models for other unique World Renown Fine Jewelry and Watch Dealers such as Quervo Y Sobrinos Habana in Cuba.

Ultimately It was the MARCONI with it’s hand crafted and assembled movements and the fine attention to detail that forged a legendary reputation for accuracy and reliability and established Rolex as the finest wristwatch maker in the world” !!

Superb quality in every detail ,  from the mint porcelain dial with zero cracks or chips ,  to the Mercedes hands to the stunning gold filled bezel which has a strong stylistic appearance to the bezeps , both front & rear , on many early Rolex  ~  including the “soon to come”  Rolex Oyster’s.

This bespoke Jazz Age piece is simply exceptional.

I have no hesitation stating that I never expect to see another one again ,  in image or in person  ~   as there is every chance that this Superb Extremely Rare Rolex Marconi Art Deco Enameled Clock may well be a totally unique piece with No other existing on the planet today!!
If not  ~  & other’s do exist ,  I have absolutely zero doubt that they will be in extremely small numbers  >>>>>>>>>>  if any at all.

The enamel has been so expertly created that an almost 3D effect has been captured !
With the top section appearing vertical  ~  while the base area where the Pan figures & natives dancers are ,  appears flat or near level !!

This extraordinary Rolex Marconi Art Deco Jazz Age Clock with st.silver stand  ~  is a true jewel & absolute rarity   ~  and genuine / serious expressions of interest should be  directed via email and we will respond promptly ,  usually on the same day.
We expect an above ‘standard vintage Rolex Submariner price’ on this rarity ,  as this is not only so much rarer than Any submariner that it can’t be measured ,  it is also a far more appealing piece to own  ,  in my opinion at least!!
